Halloween

This Wednesday, the first graders are invited to dress in their Halloween costumes for school.  We will parading with the Pre-K, Kindergarten, and second graders around 8:10.  Parents are invited to watch the parade on the sidewalk in front of school.  If it should rain on Wednesday morning, the parade will be in the gym.  After the parade, the students will go on a search for the Great Pumpkin and parade through the other classrooms. We will also trick or treat over at the rectory with Fr. Steve and the church staff.  Please send a change of casual clothes for after the parade festivities.  We don't want anyone ruining their costume or getting hurt during gym.  Remember no masks or weapons with Halloween costumes. Parent Teacher Conferences

I am looking forward to seeing you all at conferences on October 29th and 30th.  Conferences will be 4-8 on Wednesday and 8-12 on Thursday.  Please let me know if you are unable to attend conferences on the scheduled days and we can reschedule something that will work for you.   I can't wait to share all of the great things the girls have been working on so far this year.  

Fire Prevention Month

October is Fire Prevention month!  On Thursday, the students participated in our school wide fire drill, visited with the firefighters, and toured the firetruck.  The firefighters reminded the students to have an adult check the batteries in their smoke detectors and to practice their home exit plans.  Later this month, the first graders will have a personal visit from a firefighter and learn more information about fire prevention.  

Steeple Chase

Don't forget to sign up for this year's Steeple Chase on October 4th.  Check this week's family envelope for details or call Mrs. Vodak in the school office.  The walk/run is a great family event and a wonderful way to get to know other Saint Mary families.  The students are invited to wear their Steeple Chase shirts and jeans to school on Monday, October 5th.  We will have a short assembly in the gym on Monday morning to announce the first place boy and girl from each grade.  I hope to see you all there.

Settled In

We made it through our first day and everyone returned for day two with smiles on their faces.  I think that is a sign it is going to be a great year!  I am truly enjoying getting to know each of the students as we begin working together.  We have spent our time unpacking and organizing our supplies, meeting our specials teachers, and learning the ins and outs of first grade.  I am looking forward to getting to know all of you too, as we work together this year to help the students become the best first graders they can be.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  Have a great rest of the week!

 

Back to School Picnic

Don't forget to come to the Back to School Picnic on Sunday, August 24 at 11:30.  Students and parents will have an opportunity to meet the teachers, see the classroom, unpack school supplies, and catch up with friends.  I look forward to seeing you all there.
